Pound (£)

The Pound remains strong as news that the Moderna vaccine will likely arrive in the UK soon has created optimism. It is expected that people who are 40 years old and over will be given their first dose in April. Housing Secretary Jenrick believes that the government is ‘on course’ to meet its vaccination targets.

Euro (€)

The Euro remains under pressure as Germany considers imposing night-time curfews similar to parts of France. The number of coronavirus cases in Europe has continued to rise and has been exacerbated by the slow vaccine rollout across the continent.

Dollar ($)

The Dollar is slightly stronger due to more demand for its safe-haven status as private investment firm Archegos Capital was forced to liquidate $20bn worth of stock positions as a result of failing to meet margin calls. As a result, investment banks such as Normura and Credit Suisse have warned of ‘significant’ losses and led investors to take a risk-off approach.
